While this past weekend’s Super Bowl might go down in history as the best ever, there were a number of great moments that happened off the field as well, most notably the experience provided by Hyundai Motor America (HMA) for a number of our deployed troops. Here at our San Diego Hyundai dealership, our team is proud to be associated with a brand that cares so much about those who sacrifice the most for our country.

Immediately following the game, the Hyundai brand’s Super Bowl commercial aired, and it was one of a kind. Working in conjunction with the U.S. Department of Defense, renowned director Peter Berg, the families of U.S. troops, and the troops themselves, HMA was able to “transport” U.S. Troops from their overseas base to the Super Bowl through an innovative technology that allowed that troop to experience the Super Bowl with their family. Using customer built 360-degree immersive pods that were set up at a base overseas, the troops were “transported” to a box at the stadium where their family was taking in the game live. Each troop was outfitted with an earpiece and microphone so they could communicate with their family for a few hours while watching the game.

HMA filmed these experiences and interactions live during the game, and then edited and produced the video into a nine-second documentary that captured the incredible and emotional experience. Peter Berg had this to say about the experience:

This project combines two of my greatest passions—football and the military. I’m incredibly proud to be partnering with the Hyundai and INNOCEAN teams to bring the troops a better Super Bowl experience through cutting-edge technology. Editing the piece during the game itself is going to be intense, but we will have an incredible team in place on multiple continents to pull off this feat.
