You probably know that Hyundai is a Korean company, but did you know that more than half of the vehicles our brand sells in the United States are also made here? That’s right. Hyundai has a manufacturing plant in Alabama, engineering facilities in Michigan, and a research center in California.

In fact, the Hyundai $30 million Design and Technical Center is nearby in Irvine, California. That 90,000-square foot facility houses designers, engineers, model makers and technicians, all of whom are responsible for playing a part in customizing designs for the Hyundai North American market. In fact, it was those workers who were responsible for designing both the Hyundai Sonata and the Hyundai Genesis Coupe. And just down the road in Costa Mesa is the Hyundai American headquarters.

At Kearny Mesa Hyundai, we think that’s pretty great news. It’s not because we think you’ll be taking a drive from our Hyundai dealership in San Diego and stopping by the Costa Mesa headquarters, but as a Californian and an American, we think you too will be happy to know that Hyundai supports the U.S. economy. But what does that mean? What is the impact in America?

It’s pretty huge. We’re talking 94,000 jobs created across the country in 2011, as well as $1.7 billion invested in building the Alabama manufacturing facility. In 2012, production team members at the Alabama location earned an average yearly salary and benefits of more than $73,000. That amount represents more than double the median household income for Alabama residents at that time! Maintenance team members earned, on average, about three times the median household income for people living in Alabama.

So while we think providing you with safe and stylish Hyundai vehicles is good work here in San Diego, we also recognize that the investment our brand is making in the United States is even better work. We’re proud to help introduce you to Hyundai and to sell and service your Hyundai car or SUV. We know that each time we do, we’re also helping to make a lasting and important impact on the future success and strength of our country, and we appreciate the part that each of you plays in that.
